For any time I’ve wondered “does this guy know what he’s talking about?” or wanted to argue some policy point - this right here is Mike Madrid at his best. Weaving history, philosophy, politics, motivation, hope.

Bless you, Mike

The reason people in the Lower Rio Grande Valley celebrate Cinco de Mayo is our direct connection to General Zaragoza. He was born in Goliad, but grew up in Matamoros. Also, he used vaqueros from the area as calvary units led under Porflio Diaz. Diaz's home in Brownsville still exists. Here is a blog about corridos recorded by Americo Parades that includes "La Batalla del Cinco de Mayo."

Also here’s a good movie that’s worth the watch. Zaragoza and Diaz feature prominently https://youtu.be/9sSXNopytKQ?si=P4VSWfzCI0f-UGvX
