I rather like how the acronym means map in Spanish. It is a meaningful synthesization of what we can do for one another. This could and should carryover into repairing our relationship with Canada, perhaps including scrubbing our deal taking some of the tolls on the Gordie Howe Bridge which Canada alone paid for.
Ten years ago I was at a SANDAG retreat at which you spoke about public opinion regarding a potential sales tax measure. I’m confident neither of us had any clue about how wild our world would become following that November election.
There’s a lot of work to be done by leaders on both sides of the border, particularly related to the gross pollution fouling our environment via the Tijuana River.

It was great to read a positive story amid all the doom and gloom.
Some things to consider. The two party system now means that a voter has to choose the least worst option rather than the best. Perhaps, it would be worthwhile for Latinos to start putting up their own non-aligned, independent candidates. Given how close it is in the House, 10-15 seats would give you the balance of power. Show that you can work with both parties effectively and that you are ethical and working for the common good and then you would generate a groundswell of support across the country.
Also, the overwhelming majority of refugees and asylum seekers aren't there by choice. They are only there because conditions in their own country have become intolerable. So, to reduce these numbers, it makes more sense to improve conditions in their own country. Perhaps things like debt foregiveness or setting up businesses with worker equity. There are a large number of economic levers that can be pushed to reduce crushing poverty and improve the standard of living, with a side order of reducing oppression.
Similarly, if you want to stop Mexicans crossing the border to work in the US, increase the overall standard of living in Mexico and the financial imperative disappears, along with all of the border crossings.
I know it is easy to say, but MAPA - and you - should have a clear vision of what are the concrete things that you want to achieve. And work towards those.
This is a hopeful, inspiring sign. If we can manage to vote in more Latino senators and congressmen in the midterms, it should help strengthen this alliance and put it on a faster course to implementation. Of course, it can't realize its full potential until we get the racist, man-child out of the Oval Office. Thanks for sharing this good news.
It is great to see that people like Mike and those smart enough to read the writing on the wall have an inkling of the benefits to both nations, to the strength of unions of government policies and Union workforce on both sides of the borders. Such alliances shall be an environment-saving strategy. as well. If a business is hesitant to invest in Mexico? How about making your workers part owners, say 10% partners in ownership, to assure that nationalization does not happen.?Support of Unions for Health Care for All, should be supported by retirees in Mexico, to even the health options playing field for both nations. Better care for all in Mexico, with the same for USA residents. Food security with soil-health-based methods, local food processing in both nations and uniform pricing instead of profit making priorities, guides what is grown ot raised in both nations. Together we can spare the farmlands and forests. We were once one nation at wars. We can be two nations at peace.
