But what is Newsom actually DOING to fix his state?

You spent a long time on your comment, and I appreciate it. I live in Los Angeles, and I genuinely liked Newsom's speech as well. We have been waiting forever for someone to speak out, and start fighting back. And, he made a great speech, and proved that he's not afraid of Trump.

The problem is that Newsom's been a lousy governor. He tends to side with corporate interests rather than voters' interests. And, he has done nothing about the housing shortage, the homeless, economic equality, the budget deficit, taxes, the drought, and so much more. So, while I appreciate your enthusiasm and everyone's else's, I just want to temper it a bit, and suggest you research California's problems before making a decision about Newsom.

I haven’t made a decision about Newsom. I’ve been a VERY big critic of his when warranted. This is purely analysis. Thanks for the feedback.

Mike is the best. And personally, as an independent pro democracy dude, I hope more Democrats, Independents, and principled Republicans (if they still exist) learn from Governor Newsom and join the fight.

Great article Mike.

You know what these tactics reminds of, it reminds me of the movie Lincoln. There, pro-slavery politicians would use personal attacks, insults, and what we would call today as misinformation to attack Lincoln and others, and the abolitionists in Congress would fight back with witty attacks, like how Newsom is.

Go on Youtube and see a clip of Tommy Lee Jones defending his position on the 13th ammendment with surgical strikes to see what I'm talking about.

Newsome does have a mountain to climb to win over anyone from right to center and he has alienated some of the left… California is where all republicans have made vitriolic negative associations with that seven letter word… LIBERAL.

Gavin’s got game! He just neutralized Jon Voight’s rant with the Simpson’s’ Old Man Yells at Cloud meme!

Thank you for your perspective. I was beginning to wonder about Newsom but this makes sense. He's certainly done an amazing job in LA, standing up to the monsters. Just finished watching his speech on YouTube.

Love this piece. He’s potential but America needs to get rid of its parasites first because as long as it’s hosting parasites any leaders will be the same.

While he is meeting the moment, he won’t be able to be the candidate we need if we have another election.

Name a better straight white well-known, well-spoken male to lead us out of this shit. I'm not some Newsom fanboy, but he gets an A triple plus for leadership right now.

Nope, I had initially considered him but he’s 100% not getting the Black or Hispanic vote in a D primary now as they saw him in real time throw trans people under the bus for expediency, as well as palling around with fascists in Kirk and Bannon…they REMEMBER that, Gavin shot himself in the foot before he even got going in 2028 long term.

The core base of the party is furious, right now, every bit as much as young voters of all races/genders at the moment— the more you try to win over fascists, the more you end yourself in the next primary cycle.

Gavin MIGHT have had a shot had he not did what he did prior, but he has proven, he’s not the white man needed for the job unfortunately (and it’s got to be a heterosexual one, the US is not voting for anything else vs Trump sadly).

Is there an agreement as to what, or whom, is the core base of the party?

Who votes for them as majorities?

Black, Hispanic, Asian, and young white female then male voters in that order (only since 2022 has Dem erosion occurred significantly in these cohorts, 2024 a boil, but nonetheless).

Thanks Mike. I hope you’re right. We need a brave, sane voice. To all who will be at a No Kings protest, consider carrying an American flag with your sign. They think they own our flag. Let’s show them it’s our flag too and we love our country. Be smart, be safe 🇺🇸

His social media tactics are good, but the situation hasn’t changed much though. LA cops are still being hyper violent towards peaceful protestors. I think he’s done better than anyone else on Trump’s rhetoric though. I’ll give him that.

Also didn’t love the trans sports comments on the Bannon podcast. That was a bad look.

Very thought provoking, Mike. I hope to hell you’re right. I’ve been as perplexed as anyone about his chummy podcasts with Bannon etc.
