Mike, your comments today were too kind. Noem's people pushed Senator Padilla because he is Latino, and doing so sends the clear message that he has no power to interrupt the ICE raids against his fellow Latino Californians. Mike Johnson had the audacity to suggest that the Senator was inappropriate - as if asking a question warranted the abusive response he received. MAGA is dangerous. No American can afford to underestimate the harm they are capable of. We need to be vigilant and look to each other for support now.

I appreciate that. I’m trying very hard to err on the side of kindness at this dangerous moment in history

Thank you for this. My stomach churned when I saw the video of Alex Padilla getting mugged and it’s still churning.

Thank you for getting into the weeds. It’s essential for those of us who don’t eat and breathe politics. ( but are now)

I’m speechless and so, so dejected over this. This moment feels extra perilous and tenuous. I feel like how we as a people respond (or lack in our response) will measurably set the trajectory and length of our nation’s next era of norms.

Mike, thanks for discussing the difference between California and Florida Hispanics. For those interested in evangelicals, I suggest the Substacks of Robert Jones of PRRI and the Convocation. Thanks for saving this to allow people who are unable to engage live.

I called my worthless Republican senator's office and left a message asking when he will make a public statement condemning Noem and her goon squad for assaulting Senator Padilla. I told him that although I despise him (politically), if he entered the press conferene of a Democratic cabinet member and asked a question, even aggressively, and the response was to throw him to the ground and arrest him, that I would immediately condemn that response, I would absolutely defend his right to ask such questions, and I would. These cowards who refuse to condemn aggression when it is committed by their "team" are truly worthless and must be replaced.
