A whole new generation of people from all walks of life are being catalyzed at this moment to take action, very similarly to the way I was in the mid-1990s.
Alex Padilla and I have known each other for decades, and both of us were called from different aspects and different parties to engage in the fight on behalf of the Latino community during a particularly contentious era of California politics, an era known as the Proposition 187 era. Latinos from both sides of the aisle emerged to fight on behalf of the recently migrated and created the first multigenerational Latino voting bloc.
