“the dominant thought set in the cement of that era” - Mike, your writing can be so poetic. The intro 10 paragraphs of this piece - sharing your history, triggering wistful memories (mine a couple decades before yours)… very humanizing. You don’t make the story ABOUT yourself; we just get to know some things about you as a person along with your opinions & thoughts.
I really appreciate how you can weave a story into your political/social observations. Plus throw in a beautiful turn of phrase here & there.
This article also brings to mind Orwell’s “War is Peace,” and the inevitability of every invention being used - Chekhov’s Gun applied to our military industrial complex
Thank you for such a kind compliment 🙏🏼 I feel my writing getting better so this really adds wind beneath my wings here and thank you!
I’m trying to personalize my work just enough to give it meaning and a connection and it means the world that you noticed. Thank you. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m accomplishing what I’m trying to do but this feedback is so very helpful
I was in the military many years ago. The official letter head for the SAC base at the time stated that “Peace is our Profession”. A fucking B52 base…bombs and all! You can’t make this shit up🤪
Beautifully written and this fills me with terror at the same time. The kind of terror I try to push away every day now in one way or another. I think of all the precious lives lost because of this insane man and on account of the sickness in our nation of its people and of those soulless beings in the shadows propping him up. I'm worried about our children and grandchildren and what kind of world they will be left with. I'm trying to remain hopeful, but I'd be lying if I said there's not an ever present anxiety of sorts. I hope! I hope! Thank you for your work, unique personal perspective and independent voice Mike. We need you 💜☮️
“You can do anything you like with bayonets except sit on them.” I’ve seen the quote attributed to both Talleyrand and Napoleon, but in essence it’s the same as the Einstein quote. I believe the United States needs a strong military, but . . . few Presidents have been able to resist the temptation to use it.
Beautifully written Mike. I learned a lot from your analysis. I too am a lover of Einstein, and have concern for the present moment. My hope is that despite the 1-2 million enforcers of Irans policies, Iran is defeated and something better replaces it.
I hope something better replaces our own repressive government. Iraninas differ on how that needs to happen but are united on one thing : They want to work this out, themselves - and are doing so. NO USA involvement except to STOP humanitarian sanctions by the US. They noticed what happened in Lybia, Egypt, Iraq and Afganistan when the USA intervened militarily . Destrution, corruption and chaos when we larrived and when we left.
I love your writing, Mike. It is yet another art form at which you excel. This piece inspired me to listen to Eisenhower’s farewell speech where he warns about the industrial military complex. He also had prescient warnings about technology and the environment, encouraged balance as a guide, and ended the speech with a plea for mutual respect and love between people of all faiths and nations. Here it is if anyone wants to check it out:
An extraordinary analysis! Heart wracking and scary, but truly realistic! I do hope that we will not get there, to WWIII, even though all the facts lead towards it. I do hope that something will happy and will stop our crashing course. But when we start to hope only that something will happen, is not enough.
As above, you cannot simultaneously defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States and ignor and attack it at the same time. Trump and his Cabinet, his advisors and the Military leaders are currently doing so, now, By going contrary to laws passed in Congress and Contitutional edits and the basic tenents of human rights, they violate all. By occupying USA cities and instritutions, by withdrawing funds authorized by Congress and alocating them for other purposes, by ignoring the Bill of Rights, officials are not uphold and defending their oath of support. If you are in violation of that oath, as well as civil and international laws, you must be fired or impeached from office by State and/or Federal legislators. You may be demoted, under military law of discharged from Armed Services, You may be prosecued if violation of laws has occured, such as lying to Congress in hearings. You must uphold the oath and stop others, if they do so, and face the consequences, and more, listed above. It is time for the actions needed to stop dismantling of USA Constitutional protections, Human rights protections and illegal actions by US Government Officials.

I'm anxiously awaiting Trump's overreach in Iran. Kidnapping a sitting president in Venezuela was relatively easy with no US casualties. The bombing in Iran went well- although we may never know how much actual damage was done to Iran's nuclear capacity, but, again relatively easy with no US casualties. He has bombed a handful of other countries, again relatively easier targets with no US casualties. I don't think Trump can help but push his luck. Mike, I alwayslook forward to reading your thoughts. Thank you.
This was one of your best articles Mike. Your statements hold together so precisely. I watched your episode with Robert Arnold the next day and it further cements the necrophilic way little dick aka trump is ruining America. Human beings are obviously a nuisance to him and that's what makes him agree with the Musks and Millers of the world that people should be used as fertiliser to feed the machine. These machines to their mind can be controlled by them to do all the work without any pay. Perfect! I agree with yours and Roberts belief that he's gone too far and the red hatters have to dump him or look as stupid as everybody says they are. It's never too late to correct course so you don't plough into that iceberg. I suspect even some of the "mercenary" ICEstapo are coming to that realisation also. There's just so much they'll do for money. When you have to keep raising their wages to keep them on then you become the poor man. Ironic isn't it?
How about "you cannot prepare to prevent voter fraud while preparing to commit voter fraud" . . .
Crazy shit . . .
This administration is also at war with its people for what are war atrocities.
Strength thru brutality is inherently weak and unsustainable.

Judy - that seems like a sign in the background of a scene from Dr. Strangelove! Such was our cold war

"We have literally changed the name of the Department of Defense back to the Department of War."
No, *we* have not. Two lawless, incompetent, grossly unqualified public servants who refuse to serve the public did that.
We cannot get rid of them soon enough.
Well, I'm even more depressed now lol.
No Monica!
It's just the idea of a third world war on top of what has already been happening, feels unbearable.🙄

You cannot defeat an ideology with bombs ,you only ingrain it.Scorched earth won’t work ,who’s going to be left to change his diaper!
