I've been wanting to comment on this episode. First of all, it was a profoundly informative conversation regarding Latinos and protestors carrying the Mexican flag. Second: Gustavo hasn't met this 67 y/o Boomer. There seems to be this misnomer out in the ether that Boomers were all at the insurrection, that Boomers are all racists and that folks are waiting "for us to die" so the country can move forward. I'm gonna push back on that. Understand, I'm not saying that Gustavo said all those things at all because he didn't. I am saying that the conversation above is the catalyst for me to speak on this. Boomers brought in civil rights, women's rights, anti-Vietnam, gay rights, environmental rights, etc. Between Boomers and Gen Z there have been 2 generations and Idk where everyone has been? Millennials love to snark "ok, Boomer . . ." and to that I say "God damn right, ok Boomer." When I saw the January 6th insurrectionists, they weren't all Boomers. Charlottesville - def not Boomers. Proud Boys, the East Setauket Patriots out here on Long Island, def not Boomers. As far as Congress members are concerned, most members are Gen X and a few are Mellinials. Sure, there are Boomers as well. A few years ago on "Mike Drop," I had numbers on this, I believe it was from Pew - I'm sure those numbers have changed. This Boomer is a cancer survivor, nurse, still work full time and am an executive board member of my town Democratic Committee. I go to protests and work my old you-know-what off on campaigns. Damn I'm tired but I will not leave Gen Z alone in their fight. I refuse to walk away from American democracy. I have my sword and shield and I'm def on the battlefield 😉
I for one love my boomer activists! I can attest to the fact that most of the people at the rally I was at were probably boomers, but it was a Gen X that organized the rally, and most of the speakers and other attendees were Gen X. There were some Millennials, but not many. Those there brought their young children, though. Even less Gen Z attended, but the ones that were there were handing out pinwheels as gifts to share with everyone and brought a certain endearing exuberance that raised everyone’s experience.
I think some Pope Leo fatheads might be a good addition if you wanted to replace the MX flag. And Gustavo, you’re right. In TX there hasn’t been much poking of the Hispanic bear and half (or more) became Republican over the last couple of decades.
I love seeing the Mexican flag waved at protests. I am a suburban, senior, white woman from Alaska. Not a Democrat, independent. Not flying the Mexican flag to build a coalition is sort of like flying the Confederate flag to build a coalition. That's not who we want or who will ever join the coalition, I think.

Thank you, Mike, for another excellent podcast. I have forwarded to several people here in New Mexico. Gustavo, please come back!
Time for a roadtrip to Silver City! I’ll be in Albuquerque Tuesday
