Seeing the negative results and parallels of entrenched one party rule (in blue as well as red states) is hard to unsee for me, and I’m not sure how I can help other people see it. Thank you for doing what you do to help clear the fog out of people’s perspectives. Hope you are able to share a link to the Oxford debate with us also. Can’t wait to hear about your experience!
I have noticed certain parallels with one party rule in CA and one party rule in TX. I follow a couple of Republican substacks. They are acting as if they are fixing to break free. I am so glad Talarico is welcoming them. I intend to welcome them as well, even though they may not be or stay "good" Democrats. We need fully adversarial and competitive elections. The two parties must hold each other to account. And the voters get to weigh the two sides' arguments much better. Parties should be competing for votes not competing to gerrymander and manipulate permanent control of government.
I agree- we need balance again. I feel like the Cornyn Republicans may split a ticket come November. They may go in for Talarico but won’t vote down ballot for Dems, so Gina will have a harder time unseating Abbott. And we really need him gone. Talk about needing term limits! The establishment Reagan era Republicans will not want to switch a party and will have hopes to reform their party once Trump is finally gone. That said I feel like the more populist Republican voter may break entirely from the Republican ticket and vote downballot Democratic, (these are the ones I see at No Kings rallies, for example, who are pissed about being taken for a ride and there are also anti-data center ones that will be willing to vote D) but their support will also be transitory and tenuous, as it is another sign of negative partisanship and dealignment, not a realignment. Or they could all just say F it and just stay at home. 🤷🏻♀️
Mike, I am hearing so much about CA voters who reject billionaires and also haven't cast their vote yet. I am in CA and my ballot was mailed 5/4/26. It never came, I called the registrar of voters and they said "we'll mail you a new one" That was on 5/25. Still, nothing came. I am voting in person tomorrow. I think we should be prepared for a surge tomorrow 🙏 Appreciate you!
🇬🇧 From here in England, I am genuinely shocked at the blatant corruption going on with the voting, not just in California of course, but seemingly all over the US. The very basis of democracy being trashed, with no accountability in sight - until November?
With the rest of the world watching all the evil in disbelief and horror, I ask: how could it happen? Is the US too big? Both Russia and China are huge and India too, all with similar widespread state corruption. A thought to ponder.
The weather in London is exceptional! Heading to Oxford June 4th but very jealous of a huge diverse city that’s so vibrant and clean! Food is amazing btw.
I'm originally from SE London but now in Oxford! Actually live in Bampton but temp. in the JR with a broken leg ☹️. Yes, Oxford is a wonderful city in many ways but so is Bampton a very attractive & rewarding village, not only for the Downton fame!
I wish CA weren't so slow in counting ballots. I am sitting on the edge of my seat in GA to see who wins the governor and LA mayoral primaries. Have a stupendous time in Oxford. I can't wait for your reflections and hopeful that we will be able to watch it.
Complaining with out solutions doesn’t help anything. It leads people with without solutions taking out people that are the trying. FDR didn’t get us out of the depression by complaining he had ideas he presented in a clear articulate way.
The party surely needs to tweak itself big time but it's the candidates, never vote for billionaires in this particular time, there is a leader Mike let him lead without slanting your opinion, luv you just talking!
Your editorial is hidden behind a paywall. My progressive friends, who insist Steyer has reformed his evil ways, are unable, or unwilling, to recognize how expensive progressive policies have become or how the working class is quite often left to pick up the tab.
Here, here. This kind of dynamic, if spread far and wide in these next couple years, is going to make it not so easy to win the White House in 2028. The race to box out a GOP Gov candidate this primary has been quite frustrating for me.

So sad to see this.

I’m here in England too Ann!
Hi there Mike! We are surely among most here who no doubt share the the horror.

You sound very pessimistic about Xavier Becerra chances of getting through the primary. Oh no
Nah. Becerra gets through
Yes. I was glad to see strong polling for Becerra. I am perturbed by steyer but don’t want Hilton for sure
Thank you for the update regarding the Liberal Totalitarians and their movidas!!!???!!!
Well when you put it like that 😂
