Can’t believe I missed this live. You don’t quite have the handle on Talarico yet. For example Talarico is a major fighter. Just because he doesn’t bluster and perform does not mean he doesn’t fire up base (and beyond!) voters. It’s why Repubs are so scared of him here. He’s anti-system (see G. Elliott’s explanation in his latest post- he used Talarico as an example in his live today). He speaks softly and carries a big stick.

Watched the Talarico interview w Colbert. I've been curious since first seeing him mentioned on news/pods as a TX state legislator. My spidey sense is strictly personal, past baggage over clergy with the young-earnest-polished vibe that later turned out badly... I so want him to NOT be one of those. Not my state but we're in the same boat of getting Dems elected to stave off shipwreck.

Wishing you all the best as you're out there doing the good work!

Talarico’s faith will actually help him here in TX. He could split votes in a general very easily. A friend of mine put it this way: “I feel more like a Crockett, but I want to be a Talarico”. She and her husband are voting Talarico because they see aspiration and a future in him, not more performance politicking. Kinda like Mike was saying- a post-Trump electorate mood is afoot. I am so sorry you had a bad experience with church. Rest assured that there are good clergy out there! Go check out Zach Lambert here on Substack.

After midterms and onto ‘28, do you guys think a New Deal type overhaul of government, including constitutional reforms to address everything that “norms” and trumpism proved inadequate for law and order, would or should be the Dem zeitgeist? Because that’s what I want to see. Curious as to your thoughts. Thank you both so much 🙏🏼

Wow! Excellent discussion! My main take away is that the swing vote pretty much belongs to the Latinos. To Winn

Agree with much of this analysis. However, I'm struggling to understand why Dems need to perform in 2026-2028 to be successful in the 2028 election. It seems to me that a) Dems may only control the House and b) Trump is still in office in those years. It seems the parallel to 2028 is more like 2020 where anti-Trump sentiment still carried the day to Democratic victories.

What then happened in 2021 was that neither Trump nor MAGA went away despite January 6th. Personally I thought January 6th was the end of MAGA but it obviously wasn't. So I think Democratic gains are likely in both 2026 and 2028, assuming free and fair elections. But what happens to MAGA in 2029? Is it still this dark force out to reshape America or is there a different Republican Party that emerges? To me a lot will depend on accountability of the current Trump regime. Do we hold the equivalent of the Nuremberg trials to hold the regime accountable? If not, we seem to be back to the 2021 scenario where MAGA doesn't go away and we're still fighting for Democracy going forward.

Crockett can bring women too & these folk see right & wrong, over left & right. ???

Anti-establishment, Yes! YLM? Sounds right & some of us B&W do move. Let’s think on that & ask young Latino men to step out on Substack? Anyone?

We all must see culpability, unlike the Confederacy. Theres a separate lot of rich & powerful, who never pay.

Senator Barrientos was a TX Best.

Growing Latino culture is the SanAntonio road, having small business startups with nutritional force. Who we should be is Talarico/Crockette, add spice. Revisit our contract with Native Americans, plus.

I love both of you guys! I'm a former Republican who is now a flag-waving Democrat and proud of it!

I have just one little comment for Mike. You, sir, have added so much to my understanding of politics - ever! I normally only listen to you verses watching you (e.g., YouTube). This is the third time I've watched you. Suggestion: Try scratching less (e.g. your ear) or rubbing your eyes or nose. I'm probably going to get castigated for even mentioning the touching distraction, but I only do so out of love! Please take it as intended. You are so-o-o persuasive and informative and effective.

Thank you Joe and Mike!
