Sunday morning brought troubling news to the Mexican state of Jalisco where violence erupted largely in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and surrounding cities.
Photos and videos of the international tourist city of Puerto Vallarta showed a city in flames as buses, cars and storefronts were firebombed and declarations from the Mexican government urged people to stay in their homes, class for schools next week have been cancelled and a dawn curfew enacted.
Recently the US and Mexican government have been escalating their anti-drug and cartel activities in Mexico and the capture and death of El Mencho has lit a powder keg of violent cartel pushback. Airports in Guadalajara experienced gunfire as have traffic corners. Car jackings throughout the region are being reported along with roadblocks into and out of cities using firebombed vehicles.
No deaths have been reported and activity seems more focused on government property and infrastructure rather than targeting Mexican or foreign civilians.
