In a poll of Latinos released by Axios-Ipsos on Friday before the election the top issue on the mind of Latinos was affordability/Cost of Living coming in at 51%. These findings mirror the results of public surveys and even of those of left-leaning Latino advocacy groups like UnidosUS and The Latino Community Foundation.
Even more interesting was that the immigration issue is coming in far behind the economy among Latino voters. Testing as far back as fifth in the Latino Community Foundations list of top concerns, the Axios poll actually had immigration as the number two issue but fully 22% behind the economy. 29% of Latinos chose immigration as their main concern.
Readers will note that the survey tested Latino attitudes about their role in America and the findings show a troubled stressed community, very worried about ICE raids and their place in the country. Not surprisingly, Latino’s optimism has been challenged as the Trump administration terrorizes the community. The article is titled “A bad time to be Latino”.
I interviewed one of the country’s top Latino journalists, Russell Contreras, who spearheaded the survey work for Axios. The accompanying article and poll results are HERE.
