This looks like retribution from Trump to Walz for having the gall to run against him and call out Trump's appalling lies and insults on campaign. Sickening. And Republicans in Congress sit silent and complicit.
I can't conceive of how the federal agents could refuse to let the man identifying himself as a physician examine the injured woman. That almost bothers me more than the shooting.
An agent who is poorly trained and badly led might shoot in the heat of the moment, or panic and shoot. But for 15 minutes to block a doctor from providing aid and possibly saving a woman's life -- that is cold-blooded, and the motives behind such a decision are not likely to be positive ones.
Mike, I read your post with such a heavy heart and thank you for bringing intellectual and moral clarity to this moment.
I have to admit. This made me a little weepy. I will not be afraid, and I will stand for others however I can, by voting, by speaking out, by writing my Republican representatives until they are sick of me. I became a citizen of this country because I believe in its values. Thank you fir what you wrote.
The administration wants this confrontation, the Supreme court sanctioned these encounters, and the American citizens have said no. I believe this will be another No Kings moment. This will not stand, but we will.
I hope you and Robert will make this part of your discussion tomorrow.
Your sole content and joint talks with Robert are so meaningful to me I will be upgrading my subscription on both of your platforms. Thank you for your time and energy you put into everything you bring us.
I will not be silent. I’m block walking this weekend for my favorite candidate, and I will drive there in my Honda Pilot. That same Honda will go to protests and will be used when I lit drop or show up to be a VDR.
Sharing this with all my antifa besties. And like you point out, it’s not enough to post and protest. All of us in privileged positions have a job to do, but still searching for what that is and knowing we are running out of time to reverse this takeover of our sacred democracy.
Their cruelty knows no bounds. They themselves know no bounds. They want people to be intimidated and cowed. But I refuse to be intimidated.
I see these men for what they are. These are weak men who think the power to take life gives them respect. Weak men who have to do such acts for the petty purpose of feeling like big boys. Strong men, strong people, don't have to act like "tough guys".
Tonight, I will pray for this poor woman, and for the Lord to give her soul some much needed rest. Tomorrow, with her memory in mind, I will continue with resolve.
Last September 9th, ICE agents pulled up to a house in El Paso and demanded entry to look for undocumented individuals. The owner complied, but asked to first be allowed to put up his Rottweiler, Chop, in a bathroom as the dog could be reactive towards strangers. After the dog was secured, the man went out to his truck to fetch his papers and in the meantime one of the agents went into his house, opened the bathroom door and then shot the dog. The agent refused to decline his identity and all of the agents just promptly drove away, offering no assistance as Chop bled to death on the floor. Per some information, the address wasn't even the one they wanted.
Chop was one step towards the killings; perhaps not the first. People have already been shot and injured and another man later died. Today's unspeakable and unwarranted shooting was only a matter of time. They shot a woman. How manly of them.
I hope this poor lady's family sues the entire ICE and WH Administration for every single groat they can get. I hope Minnesota joinders as civil complainiant. I hope people protest in any way they can.
I actually gasped when I read about the dog. What kind of person kills an innocent dog? I hope they sue also. Somehow Trump and his lackies need to be held accountable.
ICE is hiring the most infantile racist misogynistic idiots with a chip on their shoulder and an appetite for cruelty and retribution against non-white humans and not training them on what they are legally allowed to do, what actions are forbidden or on de-escaltion techniques. Because these overly aggressive, untrained, masked ICE agents have been allowed to run around unchecked without identifying themselves, this was bound to happen. My question is, how many times have similar incidents happened out of the site of cameras?
Our government has now declared war on the citizenry. This is no time for complacency. We must all unite and demand justice not just for this woman murdered by ICE today, but for everyone who has been harmed, tortured and/or murdered by an ICE agent. Contact your legislators to demand action and rise up in the streets in large masses to peacefully but decisively block ICE from continuing these kidnappings!

Thank you Mike, for using your voice.
Thanks for your work too Melissa! And your support 🙏🏼
Excellent commentary.
Thank you 🙏🏼

To quote Martin Niemoeller:
„First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me“
That‘s where you now are in the US. I‘m sorry for you.
Mike your writing has really hit hard with this article and The Good in Us wrote in Nov.
Your prose has greatly improved or maybe I am
Paying more attention.
My goal is continued peaceful pushback on their inhumane behaviors.
Thank you for stating what many feel, outrage with motivation and hope.
You’re very kind. Thank you 🙏🏼

I am furious.

As of today my understanding is legal action has been undertaken by Chop's owners but I have no further information.
I hope they have sued as well. Their case has all the hallmarks of a Fourth Amendment violation.
I’m shaking by this as I’m just hearing about it now, I needed to read what you wrote Mike and I’ll just say 💯 to everything you wrote here.

Really impressive commentary... Have you thought of putting your hat in the ring to be the next President?...
Remember Kent State.
