Great peice, Mike. You nailed it in the second graph re: Trumps attempt at intimidation. I anticipate this coming down a 6-3 decision, worst case.

I’m hoping 7-2 🙏🏼

Thank you Mike. It makes me feel that not all is lost here in this country of ours.

Bravo! It is, and always has been, the dream of white “nativists” to purge this country of non-white people. News flash. The real natives aren’t white. By the white supremacists’ blood and soil reasoning, the actual so-called heritage Americans are those whose ancestors were the indigenous people of North America (whether north or south of artificial lines on a map) before the first Europeans set foot here. I’m sure the irony completely escapes them.

Exactly. "They don't care."🙄

What a relief! I know it should be obvious from the plain reading of the Constitution, but these justices have invented new interpretations before.

The case presented to SCOTUS was very weak, but it is still amazing just how incompetent the people representing this administration in court always are.

"GORSUCH: Do you think Native Americans are birthright citizens under your test?

SAUER: Ah, I think ... so. I have to think that through."

They... didn't prepare for this question? They didn't think the justice well known for vehemently defending Native American rights would ask this question? Really??

Are you sure Maduro is not going to easily walk away a free man given how awful these sycophant administration lawyers are?

Ironic that T.Rrump's kids with illegal immigrants will be deportable.

I wish it brought me comfort that SCOTUS may be poised to uphold the Constitution. The fact that Trump has time to strut and sit in the courtroom, unveil library and ballroom plans, and attend any kind of lunch makes me nauseous.

Great piece, Mike, as per usual.

One thing to remember is that the stacked Supreme Court is the work of both Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. It was Mitch who delayed the appontment of a Supreme Court Justice for nearly a year under Obama and rushed through the appointment of another just before Trump left office.

The sad thing is that, by breaking this norm, the US Senate will now use it to make the Supreme court even more partisan. Should the Democrats gain control of the Senate after the mid-terms and one of the justices dies, expect the Democrat Senate Leader to "do a Mitch" and delay the appointment of a justice until conditions are more favourable. It would be nice if the US could go back to having a bipartisan choice of a justice, but that horse has well and truly bolted.

That was a political gamble McConnell was willing to take. He knew damn well what he was doing.

100%! I suppose it is one more example of a party willing to trash conventions.

Don't get me wrong, the Dems do it, too.

I suppose it is a case of what the US voters (I'm an Aussie) are willing to accept before they decide enough is enough and force through reforms. Or will it be the case that the current Administration becomes so bad that future Administrations voluntarily show restraint (which I doubt).
